Brasília, Brasil
Maia
Besides Bgirl, I am a clown, the daughter of a great circus master, and I have been developing circus and popular culture works for over 20 years. I started dancing in 2010 in Brasília, capital of Brazil. At that time I already had some friends who were dancing, but what really motivated me to start was when I watched a couple of very good b-girls fighting in an event in my neighbourhood. Seeing other b-girls dancing was always something very inspiring and made a total difference during my Breaking experience, I have many good memories of that. Also, within the culture, I believe that my presence is able to encourage more and more women to take an interest in Hiphop, something I see as totally necessary, as it is a culture extremely dominated by men all over the world.
For me, Breaking is part of what I am, what I think, what I eat, how I dress, everything I produce and still makes me believe in myself every day. It’s freedom, feeling, energy, strength, self-care, exchange, meditation, prayer, resistance, and this is what I also try to transmit with my art.
